Happy Father's Day!

To anyone who is a Dad or to any of you becoming a Dad soon. I hope you have/had a great day!
I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record but I miss my Dad! Each holiday or special moment is hard without him. Especially on a day that is supposed to be all about him. So Happy Father's Day to my Dad....wish you were here......

We've waited 30 years.....

....for a triple crown winner. I guess it won't hurt to wait a little longer. I have to say I was not shocked that Big Brown didn't win the Belmont yesterday. His connections were too cocky....too sure they were going to deliver a win. I think they jinxed themselves pretty early. I'm sad that we didn't have a triple crown winner this year. It just shows the public that it really does take an extraordinary athelte to get the job done. One of my most favorite racehorses, Seattle Slew did it and remained undefeated. He is the only horse in history to do such a thing.
Racing over the years has really turned into too much business and not enough about the great horses of the past....and trying to duplicate that.
They've interviewed the track vet, the jockey and also the trainer and noone could figure out what went wrong yesterday. Big Brown is sound. I know there will be all kinds of "hooplah" on the news and internet about his feet and how that MUST have been the problem. I just roll my eyes at that. It wasn't the horse's day. He was rank coming out of the gate, never settled and just couldn't get the job done. Yes, it was HOT and the track was deep and cuppy. So it is possibly that he wasted all his energy being a dummy early in the race. It's also possible that he bled (pulmanary hemorige) or it's possible that he just didn't want to run that day. Hopefully they will figure out what the problam was and get it fixed....and then head to the Breeders Cup.

Four months...

Hannah had her four month wellness check up and vaccines today. She's 16 pounds and 2 ounces, 25 3/4 inches long and the doc said she looks like a nine month old! She's in the mid 90th percentiles for height and weight. She got three shots today and one oral vaccine. She was such a brave girl! She cried pretty bad for all of ten seconds and calmed right down when I picked her up. The bad news is that when the doc was checking her hips she said the creases in her legs are not even. In fact they are uneven by about an inch. She said this could mean her hips are not sitting in the sockets correctly. So they called St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown and cheduled her for an ultrasound. We go in on thursday morning. Please cross everything crossable that this ultrasound is normal. If her hips are not aligned well they may put her in a brace. If they are okay then we just have a baby with unique leg creases. *sigh*

Fat pony and crazy dogs...

Lou took a nap with Hannah today so I snuck out to go visit Sealy for a while. She's doing really well out in the pasture. Too well as you can see...

Someday she'll have a job again. But for now she's just enjoying her time off from work. Coco and Jorja went along with me into the horse pasture. These two dogs are like frick and frack. The run and wrestle, knocking each other over constantly.
Here is Coco. She LOVES to run. The grass is about as high as the middle of my shins so you could only see little miss Coco when she was in flight...She also likes to croutch down. As if Jorja can't see her and she's going to sneak up on her. They had me laughing pretty hard today. Tomorrow is Hannah's next doctor visit. She gets another set of shots. So here I am being anxious about it already. I'm interested to see how much longer she's grown but not looking forward to her shots.
